England and Wales Cricket Board partners with Monterosa, starting with a record season for The Hundred Fantasy Game and launching Monterosa Fantasy as part of its fantech platform

London, 7 September 2026

  • 58% of players retained from the start to the finish of the 2026 competition, up from 50% in 2025, which was the previous high water mark.
  • The partnership also marks the launch of Monterosa Fantasy, a flexible new solution for tournament and season-long fantasy games.

London, 7 September 2026 – The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Monterosa have announced a record season for The Hundred Fantasy Game, the first experience delivered through their new partnership.

The Hundred Fantasy Game achieved its highest-ever user retention rate, with 58% of users playing from start to finish across the eight-block game. This was up from 50% in 2025, the previous record.

The 2026 game ran across four weeks from 10 July, introducing a refreshed mobile-first experience alongside live updates and regular push notifications that kept the game closely connected to the action.

Players selected squads of 14, comprising seven men and seven women from The Hundred competitions, with unlimited transfers available between blocks. The broadcaster league gave fans the chance to follow the teams selected by the Sky Sports pundits and witness the battle for league glory, which saw Nasser Hussain pipped to the title by Natalie Germanos. Share cards gave fans the option to download or share an image of their team selections across multiple communication channels and social media platforms.

The game was built and operated through Monterosa Studio and embedded within The Hundred's existing digital products using the Monterosa SDK. The same integration enables the ECB to introduce further gamification and visualisation experiences rapidly across its digital channels.

"We're delighted to have partnered with Monterosa as our new Fantasy Game and gamification supplier. The Hundred Fantasy Game has been a key part of the fan experience over the past five years, with our data showing it is the number one driver of engagement across The Hundred's digital products. Partnering with Monterosa has enabled us to take the game to the next level, introducing a refreshed experience and innovative new features. The response from our fans has been hugely encouraging, with the game achieving its highest-ever user retention rate – a fantastic result that demonstrates the strength of the new experience."

David Payne, Head of Product & Data, ECB

The project also marks the launch of Monterosa Fantasy, a configurable solution for both short-form tournaments and full-season competitions. It gives rights-holders the flexibility to tailor game mechanics, work with their chosen data suppliers, connect AI partners and introduce social gameplay features. At the end of every round, Monterosa Fantasy can give each player a personalised review, including where they finished, which selections performed well and what they might consider ahead of the next round.

For The Hundred Fantasy Game, cricket data specialist CricViz provided the real-time match data and scoring. Monterosa Fantasy can also support television and venue-screen graphics and commercial partner integrations.

"Adding Fantasy to the Monterosa platform means rights-holders can combine daily engagement, loyalty, community and fantasy in one place, supported by shared data and AI-powered intelligence. We're thrilled to be partnering with the ECB, and this record first season gives us a strong foundation for an ambitious roadmap together."

Tom McDonnell, CEO, Monterosa

Monterosa Fantasy is available now for tournaments, leagues and esports as part of a Monterosa subscription alongside its Experiences, Loyalty and Community products. Game mechanics can be tailored to each competition and configured around a rights-holder's preferred data supplier, backed by Monterosa's 24/7 support.
